The tapping out of patterns of sound with their hands and listening to the tones on the chime bars/bells, increases children’s hand eye coordination and helps develop spatial intelligence. Children are also encouraged to discover the sounds in their environment finding the music can happen by anyone, anywhere.
What’s more, The Magic of Music always includes an element of drama, dress up with costumes, performance and self expression in the class which effortlessly enhances a child’s self esteem and social skills. Primary & Secondary

The Magic of Music is a great advocate of having music lessons a regular part of a child’s life, in particular children with special needs.
This development in a special needs child is all the more heightened by the fact that it’s the most accessible tool that educators and parents have for reaching into this child’s world and making those vital connections. The goal of the Magic of Music in a special needs class is not the music itself. Rather the music is simply a way to achieve the goal of cognitive stimulation, self expression, self awareness, increased motor movements and most importantly, a massive boost to their self esteem and to have fun.

Through a fun and well thought out music literacy programme, children are being exposed the very basics of patterns, numbers, fractions, symbols and problem solving, stimulating a part of their brain that may otherwise prove difficult to engage.
Every lesson is structured to make the children feel as secure as possible and to achieve a level of success. With this in mind The Magic of Music lesson will always start with the same welcome song and also a song to give each child an opportunity to express themselves. Then we will play some of our well researched action songs/music which have been proven time and time again to be a great avenue to access the children’s inner worlds. We move from there to a new piece of music, dance movement or percussion exercise in order to create challenges and move the children to the next level. And then we’ll always finish the same way each week to bring the lesson to a comfortable close for the children. Each workshop is tailored to fit the needs of the children we have in front of us and the goals that they themselves, their parents and educators hope to achieve in order to help them realise and achieve their full potential.

The Magic of Music recognises the great advances in music technology and includes as part of their lessons new and exciting equipment such as soundbeams, (www.soundbeams.co.uk ). The soundbeams in particular have been used with great success in special needs groups all over England and Ireland with children and adults of all ages.
The very nature of the fact that with the most limited movement, a response can be made though sound by the person, success is easy and a sense of self importance and self esteem is established quickly.

The playing of good quality percussion instruments for a special needs class can be of unestimable value for the children who have difficulties in hearing, seeing, moving, thinking or responding. The tapping
out of patterns of sound with their hands and listening to the soothing tones of the pentatonic scale on the chime bars/bells/boom whackers, increases children’s hand eye coordination and helps develop spatial intelligence and motor skills.
It’s also an outlet that encourages children to use music to deal with emotional issues, especially when unable to express though speech. Where words fail, music is a medium into their world.
What’s more, The Magic of Music always includes an element of drama, dress up with costumes, performance and self expression in the class which effortlessly enhances a child’s self esteem and social skills. Our action songs have proved especially popular in this kindof setting. It is proven to be a particularly effective method for children with Autism or Asperger’s as they lack the social skills that enable them to participate fully in play and other social situations. They learn how to become part of a positive group dynamic by performing as ‘one body/one voice’ as music gives them an avenue to express and communicate in a non-verbal, non-threatening manner which out them at ease and allows for strides in social interaction to follow.
